On the morning of 24 August 2024, residents of Chong Pang gathered at Social Space @ Chong Pang, eager to learn how to take quality photographs using their smartphones.
The venue was filled with enthusiastic participants as trainer John Amos Tan began the session, sharing practical tips on smartphone photography and how simple techniques can make everyday photos more visually appealing.
FirstCom Academy partnered with the People’s Association to organise this free workshop, giving Chong Pang residents the opportunity to develop useful photography and editing skills.
Beyond learning how to take better photos, participants were also introduced to basic vlog editing techniques, equipping them with skills they could use to create and share travel memories, family moments, and everyday experiences in a more engaging way.
The energy in the venue grew when Minister K. Shanmugam made an appearance to show his support for the workshop.
Attendees were quick to put their newly learned photography skills into practice, capturing photos with the Minister and applying the tips shared during the session. We were honoured by Minister Shanmugam’s presence, which reflected the continued support for initiatives that encourage Singaporeans to keep learning and upgrading themselves.
With many retirees in the area enjoying travel, leisure walks, and time with family and friends, the workshop offered practical skills that could be applied meaningfully in everyday life.
Participants learnt how to better capture the beautiful sights they encounter and share these moments with their loved ones. The vlog editing segment also gave them the confidence to compile travel videos and present their experiences in a more creative and engaging way.
As the saying goes, “a picture speaks a thousand words”, and with these new skills, participants are now better equipped to tell their stories through photos and videos.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the People’s Association for this meaningful collaboration, which provided us with a valuable platform to engage the community.
Seeing the enthusiasm and satisfaction of the attendees was deeply encouraging, and we look forward to bringing more practical workshops and community events to residents across Singapore.
