The sharp smacks of rackets hitting shuttlecocks.
The squeaking of sports shoes across the court.
The cheers of encouragement from the crowd.
These were the sounds that filled Badminton Hall B on 5 October 2024, as players and supporters gathered for the Singapore Badminton Friendlies 2024 League.
Proudly sponsored by FirstCom Academy, the event brought badminton enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels together for a day of friendly competition, active living, and shared passion for the sport.
The Singapore Badminton Friendlies 2024 League welcomed participants from all walks of life, from families with young children to seasoned players and familiar names in the badminton scene, including two-time National Champion Kendrick Lee and Olympian Derek Wong.
Our CEO and Founder, Jim Giam, also joined in the action. With racket in hand, he took part in a series of fast-paced friendly matches, demonstrating FirstCom Academy’s support for healthy, active lifestyles and community-driven initiatives.
The event featured two main leagues: the Family Doubles League and the Competitive League.
In the Family Doubles League, children teamed up with their parents for a series of exciting matches that celebrated teamwork, determination, and family bonding. It was heartening to see parents encouraging their children on court, guiding them through each rally, and showing how sport can be a meaningful way to build confidence and resilience from a young age.
Beyond the scores, the matches reflected the joy of learning, growing, and working together as a team.
The Competitive League brought an equally thrilling display of energy, sportsmanship, and athleticism.
Regardless of experience or skill level, every player stepped onto the court with the same enthusiasm and love for the game. In the spirit of friendly competition, the difference between novices and veterans faded, allowing everyone to enjoy the simple thrill of badminton — one serve, rally, and smash at a time.
The excitement continued beyond the court at FirstCom Academy’s booth, where participants took on the Upskilling Shuttle Shootout.
Visitors had the chance to win attractive gifts by smashing shuttlecocks through target holes, with each hole representing a different benefit of professional upskilling, such as salary increments, career progression, improved productivity, and more.
It was a fun and interactive way to connect the spirit of badminton with the value of lifelong learning.
Badminton is a fast-paced sport that requires focus, agility, and the ability to respond quickly to every unpredictable movement of the shuttlecock.
In many ways, the same can be said of today’s ever-changing business environment. To stay relevant and ready for new opportunities, workers must continue sharpening their skills, adapting to change, and returning the serves that life and work send their way.
Through our support of the Singapore Badminton Friendlies 2024 League, FirstCom Academy was pleased to contribute to an event that promoted both active living and lifelong learning.
We are proud to have been part of a meaningful day that brought people together through sport, community, and the shared pursuit of growth — on and off the court.
