Celebrating Singapore’s Hawker Heritage at Singapore Hawkers’ Seminar & Awards 2024

4 Nov 2024

FirstCom Academy was honoured to support Singapore’s hawkers as a sponsor of the Singapore Hawkers’ Seminar & Awards 2024. Organised by The Federation of Merchants’ Associations, Singapore (FMAS) and supported by the National Environment Agency (NEA), the annual event celebrates the achievements of hawkers, encourages the exchange of ideas, and contributes to ongoing efforts to support and uplift Singapore’s hawker trade.

The event was graced by Dr Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment.

Our Education Consultants also had the opportunity to engage with Dr Koh, members of the hawker community, and event attendees, sharing FirstCom Academy’s mission of promoting upskilling and supporting the employability of Singaporeans.

Honouring a Unique Cultural Heritage

Hawker culture in Singapore is more than food. It is a treasured part of our national identity and a cultural heritage that has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

As the hawker trade continues to evolve, upskilling plays an important role in helping individuals and businesses adapt to changing consumer needs, digital tools, and new ways of working. Through our participation, we were glad to share how practical training can support Singaporeans in building confidence, improving capabilities, and staying relevant in today’s workforce.

Working Together to Support Singapore’s Hawkers

FirstCom Academy is proud to support initiatives that celebrate Singapore’s hawkers and their contributions to our community. Let us continue to appreciate, preserve, and support this unique cultural heritage for generations to come.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Mr Yeo Hiang Meng, President of The Singapore Toa Payoh Central Merchants’ Association, and Mr Low Hock Kee, Vice President of Boon Lay Hawkers’ Association, for the opportunity to be part of this purposeful event.
